Running since 1898...

Digitised Medal copy

Willowfield Temperance Harriers was founded in 1898 in East Belfast as a traditional all-male running club dedicated to road racing, cross-country and track & field.

Today, Willowfield Temperance Harriers is still a successful and dynamic running club but, with a growing male and female membership that caters for all age groups from 9 years old & upwards through to the seasoned Veteran (these days the Over 35s are classed as “Veterans"!)

We have a vibrant Mini & Junior section. While we believe it’s important that children enjoy running, we are content that many of our Mini & Junior athletes are also involved in other sporting pursuits. Some of the parents like to use the time when their kids are running with us to enjoy some “me time" to head off on their own informal running session.

Affiliated to Athletics Northern Ireland, with our own registered coaches, we are committed to attracting and developing members of all ages, gender or ability and, can offer varied training programmes to suit all levels.

Remember the modern Olympic Games was founded on the principle that it’s not the winning but, the taking part that counts! So, with that in mind, we would encourage anyone interested in running to come along and take part – under no obligation! Please don’t let our name (or reputation) put you off!
